Yemen Cafe is the kind of place you hear about from everyone--and I mean EVERYONE. Six different Detroit locals practically pushed us through the door, and I'm so glad they did. We saved it for our last meal in the city, and let me tell you, we definitely saved the best for last. The vibe inside? Super chill but packed with people from all over Detroit. It's clean, it's cozy, and it's the kind of spot where you just know the food's gonna be good. Gallaba with Hummus: This dish, folks, is a game-changer. Picture beef sautéed with onions, tomatoes, green onions, and garlic, all piled on top of the creamiest homemade hummus you've ever tasted. They serve it with Rashoosh bread, which is basically the size of a small blanket (okay, not quite, but close). Dip that bread in the Gallaba, and you'll be in flavor heaven. Trust me, this is the dish you HAVE to order when you go. Baked Lamb: The lamb is slow-baked for hours, so it's super tender and just falls right off the bone. It comes on a bed of rice with some tomato soup vibes and veggies on the side. The portions are huge--like, "I can't believe I'm not finishing this" huge--but every bite is packed with flavor. Oh, and did I mention the free Yemeni tea? It's delicious and just the right touch to start and finish your meal. Yemen Cafe is a total gem. If you want a ridiculously good meal without blowing your budget at some fancy spot, this is where you need to go. Portions are massive, flavors are on point, and I can't recommend it enough.

Wanted to check this place out during a brief stop in Detroit, especially as this cuisine is not common around me except for fast food style kebabs and shawarma. Parking lot is pretty ratchet, but that's Detroit right? Fortunately the murals are beautiful and you know you're in the right area when you see so many people constantly coming in and out for the food. It was absurdly busy even at midnight. I have never had gallaba before, and I don't know how to give it justice with a description except it's crazy delicious and worth the trip hands down. It paired super well with the crispy bread and hummus. In spite of some late night hangriness and slow service with the busy crowd, I will happily come back anytime.

A friend recommended Yemen Cafe, so I dropped by on a Saturday afternoon. The customer service was superb! Our waiter checked up on us several times, and he served us complimentary honey tea and condiments. I tried the Tabbouli Salad and Grape Leaves. The Salad was delicious, but it included way too many onion slices. The Grape Leaves were too mushy for my taste, unfortunately. They easily broke when pierced with a fork. I would return to try a more traditional dish next time.

Yemen cafe in Hamtramck is amazing- definitely a must visit if you're in the area!! Firstly, service here is afast and waiters are always very friendly. You can get free, delicious yemeni tea while you wait for your food to come out (beware- it is fresh and hot!) If tea isn't your style and you're looking for something more cold, I'd highly recommend the mango juice. (For anyone not familiar, expect "juice" in this context to mean more like a smoothie!) Now onto food- my favorite thing to get here is fahseh by far. In these photos I got fahseh with lamb- this is a yemeni stew with really tender lamb cooked and served traditionally in this bowl as pictured. That being said, out of the numerous times I've been here I've seriously not had anything bad. If you're really not a fan of arab food, although I'd recommend you give it a try again- there are a few american options as well although I can't say I've tried them. The atmosphere of this restaurant is definitely family friendly, lots of space and also more private booths in the back near the kitchen if you'd prefer. There is a small parking lot but also free street parking available in all nearby streets. This restaurant is also located next to a cute and updated park- perfect location for having outdoor time before or after meal. Overall, I'd HIGHLY recommend coming here! Note they also have broad hours so you can come here for breakfast or a late dinner!

This place is definitely doing something right by staying open past everyone else especially on a Sunday. What a great business move and support to its community. The food didn't disappoint either. We were really happy with the chicken and rice. It had great flavor and not dry for being grilled. This little spot is great for post anything especially after the Schvitz. They are open till 1am. It's not fancy but the food is YUMMY and definitely worth a try. If any pointers I would give to the establishment, it would be to adjust the oil quality on the salad. It was too heavy and not olive oil. Hope to visit again! Also, a few options were gluten free but you have to ask server. The lamb soup was NOT gluten free. They do add flour.

I can't believe the amount of food you get, definitely get your money's worth here. lots of fat to pick through on the lamb, but that is what gives it all it's flavor and makes it fall off the bone. The service was very slow, but our server was nice and accommodating. The tables and floors were sticky, which is a pet peeve of mine, and I dislike their napkins, and napkin dispensers, at the table very much. The napkins were thin like facial tissue, and the dispensers were covered in finger prints, which grossed me out.

Nestled in Hamtramck is Yemen Cafe where they specialize in Yemeni and Middle Eastern cuisine. I always get the chicken gallaba with rice and I always take home leftovers. The portions are huge. The fresh Yemen bread pairs well with their garlic spread. Everything is so good and packed with flavor!

Overall this place was amazing and delicious food!! The humus is next level! It is incredibly smooth and tastes a lot better than even the best store brands. The rice dish was the perfect amount of spice and salty, this is a must when visiting! Finally the tuna fuhshah was something new I tried and I was not disappointed! You can also get lamb instead of tuna but it was a nice warm tomato based dish. They have complimentary tea and there is a lot of self service which is nice! Overall, I would come back for the relaxing vibes and the delicious food!

Got a dish consisting of lamb and rice in addition to a stew with peppers, onion, and chicken. They were both so good and would highly recommend! The stew was hot and very savory, really good with the homemade and fresh bread ($1.50) . The garlic sauce was also really tasty paired with everything seen! He had to box up 1/3 of what's seen bc both of us couldn't finish, but believe me it was still really good the next morning. There was also self serve free hot tea that was lightly sweetened and fragrant. Would recommend bring cash next time or using it to pay to save a buck or so and avoid the electronic fee on the bill. Ambience also felt really cozy and seemed like locals come by a lot. Server was really friendly and actually recommended these dishes!

We were hungry and decided to head to Hamtramck to find a spot. We stumbled upon Yemen Cafe and found a gem! The food is sooooo good. We ordered the Foul (Mashed Fava Beans), Fahsah Lamb, Shish Tawook, Mango Juice, lamb chops, and the rashoosh bread. When I tell you we smashed....it's an understatement. Food was delicious! We've been thrice since being there the first time. The service was decent. It wasn't the most amazing service and the wait wasn't too bad but it's so worth it.
